| New Years and stuff. |

I'm trying to motivate myself into writing something about my trip, but I don't even know where to start. I don't feel collected enough to really write much lately.
2008 was a pretty good year, overall. There was some bad, some good, like any other year. The best thing to happen all year was probably getting the new job, of course. Other worthy notes were the concert, practically living at Bob's over the summer, and the trip to Chicago.
New Years was great, really! I spent it down in Champaign-Urbana at Waisz House. Pat, White Paul and I arrived the day before for some extra hang out time. The house is pretty much awesome for what it is. We spent much of the time watching youtube with Ryo, from what I can remember- Ryo being the Japanese exchange student Ken knows from his trip to Japan last year. He stayed in Chicagoland for two weeks over break, and we taught him much of the American way, haha. By... looking at the internet and eating horribly greasy food.
On New Years itself... We had some authentic, imported from the UK absinthe, courtesy of Waisz and Ken. They bought a special glass with a filter, and a spoon [with holes in it, haha] to make the sugar and water effects more interesting. It was really cool, and it tasted delicious. It was definitely flavored with anise. But wow, 144 proof. Phew! I basically split a glass with Jill, I don't think I could've dared to drink one on its own at that point. I'd already had a few rum and cokes and an amaretto sour by that point. That night, I also tried Guiness. Pretty good, for BEER. I pretty much still hate beer, haha. Some of Jill and Ken's friends made some grog on the stove, which was a bit too tart but with more sugar it could be delicious! Heck, so could the absinthe, it was a bit too firey for my tastes, even with it being watered down so much.
Of course there was more to new years than booze, I guess. :P There was quite a bit of rock band 2 shenanigans, and a lot of repeated watchings of SHPIDERMAN and IT'S OK TO BE GAY, among other things on the... internet. Hah. I blame deprivation! My brother drove down to join the party, too, which I think added to the hilarious moments that were had. It was a pretty tame new years, in retrospect.
I always do resolutions, even though they're kind-of silly. It's an excuse to set goals, which I always like to do. Life is all about the challenge!
2009: -acquire residence in a quiet, normal neighborhood -be more calm in confrontations, and less angry in general [I started on this one when I left for IL really] -exercise to tone and regain some of my former stamina -use the computer less in my free time, since I have to use it so much for work [I think my vision's starting to deteriorate] -visit IL more than once -be more motivated in general -learn to take better care of my nails -read more
Admittedly, most of the time my resolutions sound like to-do lists, but I do have to encourage myself mentally to do some things so I still consider them valid. I may add some more in there later. Happy belated New Year, everyone! |
